ASME B30.5 requires signal persons to be tested and to demonstrate qualification as a signal person.  See Signal Person Qualifications below.

Many signal persons have little or no knowledge of mobile crane characteristics or capacity limits.  This program is designed to help you meet ASME requirements and to provide Signal Persons the knowledge they need to safely signal cane loads into position.

ASME B30.5-2004
Signal Person Qualifications

"Prior to signaling crane operations, all signal persons shall be tested by a designated person and demonstrate
their qualifications in the following areas:
(a) basic understanding of crane operation and limitations.
(b) standard hand signals...
(c) standard voice signals..."

Major Course Topics

Crane Operation and Limitations
Mobile Crane Areas of Operation
Understanding Load Charts
How Accessories Affect Capacity
Stability & Structural Limitations
Hazard Recognition
Support Role for Crane Set-up
Standard Hand Signals
Standard Voice Signals
Special and Emergency Signals
Energized Power Lines
Personnel Handling

Although a new requirement for ASME B30.5, Crane Tech recognized the need for specialized Signal Person training as far back as 1991 when provided Signal Person training for the US Navy.

A dynamic program filled with critical information required for crane operators and signal persons to work from the same knowledge base.
